2011 Youth & Mentor Hunt

Picture

A special thanks to the team at Pheasant Bonanza for allowing us to hold our event.

On Saturday, September 24, we held our 6th Annual Youth and Mentor Hunt at Pheasant Bonanza outside of Tekamah, Nebraska.  31 youths (15 years and younger) were in attendance.  The Youth and Mentors enjoyed a wonderful fall day learning all aspects of hunting including safety, wildlife habitat, bird and gun cleaning and proper training and caring for a dog as well as taking part in a live pheasant hunt.  All of the participants received a blaze orange hunting vest as well as a youth hunt cap.

We had a fantastic day!  Being an urban chapter this event is one of the most important things we can do to ensure that our youth get exposure and knowledge to enjoy the sport that we do.

Thanks to all of the volunteers that helped to make this day special to all of us.  The experience and knowledge that you bring to the table is priceless.  The day couldn’t have been a success without all of your help.

Pheasants Forever, in partnership with Nebraska Game & Parks, started the Youth/Mentor Hunt Program in 1996.  The program has introduced more than 5000 youth statewide to hunting and habitat conservation.  There are 53 Youth/Mentor hunts scheduled across Nebraska during the 2011-2012 hunting season.
